The Importance of Barcode-Based Inventory Management at a Warehouse

Our A2 Art Storage warehouse location utilizes barcode-based inventory management. We implement this technique for a number of beneficial reasons.

Record Keeping

Within the art world, knowing the history of a piece will make or break its value. Inventorying an object within our system creates a digital and physical history. We are able to record any pertinent details necessary for future reference. This includes but is not limited to, provenance, condition reports, edition records, various photos, and dimensions.

Compiling records leads to better understanding of what is before you and will set you, and those who come after, up for success.

Organization

When operating a larger warehouse facility, it is easy for art and objects to look similar to one another. It is important to implement an organizational system to be able to discern between clients as well as items. Our barcoded labels allow for easy recognition between items. Each piece retains a unique code which can be tracked within our system to determine its location in the facility, as well as referencing its past history, and noting if it has since left the facility on a previous release.

Quick Reference

Recording all information digitally makes our lives easier. We are able to quickly pull up any information previously recorded and reference it in any scenario. The barcodes are scanned and all records can be produced at any point.
